Program Outline & Rules and Regulations

  1. Program Aims

    The program aims to provide the participants the ground theory training as required by the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority for pilot training from initial stage to General Flying Practical Test (GFPT) stage.

  2. Eligibility

    The program is open to all officers and cadets who have attained Leading Cadet Badge or above of HKACC. Successful applicants from other youth organisations are likely to be those who have good reference from their superior officers, sound records in community services, and most importantly, good command of English.

  3. Course Structure

    Candidates have to complete ALL compulsory modules and ONE optional module.

    Compulsory modules:

    aerodynamics 6 hours

    aircraft general knowledge 6 hours

    radio communication 9 hours

    navigation 6 hours

    meteorology 6 hours

    operation, performance and planning 9 hours

    flight rules & air laws in Australia 6 hours

    Optional modules:

    human performance and limitation 3 hours

    flight rules & air laws in HK 6 hours

  4. Mode of Attendance

    Part-time evening.

  5. Method of Teaching

    Lectures, tutorials and video. The official medium of instruction is English.

  6. Assessments

    Written assessments will be administered in each module in the program.

  7. Recognition

    Candidates who have completed all assessments will be awarded ¡¥Certificates of Achievement¡¦ from HKACC Training Group and the Australian Aviation College. HKACC cadets will have completed all aviation subjects required for the Senior Cadet and Cadet Lanyard classifications.

  8. Flying Scholarships

    Graduates can apply for flying scholarship in due course. The scholarship provides 10 ab-initio pilot training hours in Australian Aviation College, Adelaide. Further details will be available from the Training Group.

  9. Course Fee

    A course fee of HK$50, HK$100 and HK$200 per module will be charged to HKACC cadet, HKACC adult WO & Officers, and members of affiliated youth organizations respectively. It is used to cover the cost of course materials and teaching aids. The balance will be contributed to the Flying Scholarships Fund. Course fee will not be refundable after the applicants have accepted the offer of a place in the program.

  10. Associate Membership

    Applicants other than the members of HKACC are required to apply for 1-year associate membership (HK$30) . Associate members can attend other courses organized by HKACC on invitation basis.

  11. Application Procedures

    Applicant should submit a complete application form, together with a self-addressed envelope and a crossed cheque payable "Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps" to the HKACC HQ General Registry before the closing date. The closing date for AAEP 1998 is on 18 April. Incomplete applications will not be processed. Cheques will be returned to unsuccessful applicants by mail.

  12. Selection Procedures

    Direct admissions are likely to be granted to those applicants who are highly recommended by their superior officers, and/or have achieved outstanding service records. Applicants may be requested to attend a selection interview conducted by the Training Group. Interviews are designed to further assess an applicant's motivation, aptitude and overall suitability for the program.

  13. Code of Conduct

    Participants shall observe the customs and courtesy of HKACC. Disciplinary actions may be taken against the misbehaved.

  14. Program Administration

    The HKACC Training Group and the program coordinator reserve all rights to alter, revise and administer all materials and activities in the program without prior notification to and consultation with the participants.

    Pilot Training in Australia

    1. Opportunities of Flying Training

      HKACC has forged agreements with several flying schools in Australia to provide support and training for those officers and cadets who may pursue flying as a hobby or as a career.

    3. Recognition of Qualifications

      The Australian Private Pilot Licence or above is fully recognised by all member countries of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), including United Kingdom, United States and Hong Kong. Conversion to local licences in other ICAO member countries is possible. Many Australian trained pilots are employed in the international airlines, such as Cathay Pacific Airways and Singapore Airline.

    4. Cost & Expenses

      Student pilots should expect that the cost of flying vary with individual progress. In average, the cost to obtain a PPL is expected to be A$7,000 ~ A$10,000 in 1997. This is approximately 50% cheaper than that required in Hong Kong. The cost includes study tools, pilot's gear, flying fee and exam fee. Further information is available from the Training Group.

    Glider Pilot Training in Australia

    1. Opportunities for Glider Flying Training

      HKACC has reached an agreement with Adelaide Soaring Club, Australia in organising the glider flying training program for HKACC's members at a privileged discount rate.

    3. Recognition of Qualifications

      The Australian Glider 'C' Certificate is recognised by the Gliding Federation of Australia and other affiliated clubs around the world, including those in United Kingdom and United States.

    4. Cost

      Student pilots should expect that the cost of flying vary with individual progress. In average, the cost of obtaining a First Solo standard and 'C' certificate are expected to be A$2,000 and A$5,000 respectively. The cost includes study pack, flight fee and accommodation.
